Resolution Urging Governor Northam to Continue Suspension of Evictions

The Fairfax County Democratic Committee Urges the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia To Continue Suspension of Residential Housing Tenant Evictions in Virginia

WHEREAS, the current coronavirus pandemic presents a real and very serious threat to every resident of Virginia all of whom face substantial danger of contracting and spreading coronavirus.

Tenants of residential housing units in Virginia are required to make payments of rent on a timely basis as defined in their contract. Tenants who are renters of housing units in Virginia may be unable to pay all, or a portion of, their rent because of their loss of income resulting from government or private business owner efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Fairfax County Democratic Committee urges the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to, beyond the April 6, 2020 eviction moratorium deadline currently set by the Supreme Court of Virginia, by executive action consistent with the Virginia’s Constitution and all applicable laws continue the cessation of any and all actions to evict tenants of residential units because of their inability to pay their rent due to loss of income resulting from the coronavirus.
