Political polarization and divisiveness are eroding Americans’ sense of national community and undermining our democratic institutions. What can we, as individuals and as members of our community, do to counter these tendencies?

Dr. Amitai Etzioni has spent a lifetime pondering how to build effective communities while safeguarding individual rights. Come engage him in dialogue and hear what he has to say on the matter.

Dr. Etzioni was a senior adviser to the Carter White House. He is the author and editor of more than 30 books on social and public policy issues. Described by the eminent American jurist, Richard Posner, as “among the top 100 American intellectuals”, Dr. Etzioni is founder and director of the Institute for Communitarian Policy Studies at The George Washington University. His latest book, Reclaiming Patriotism, is due to be published by the University of Virginia Press in September 2019.
