This past weekend, the Fairfax County Democratic Committee hosted a service project and picnic at Fort Hunt Park in Alexandria.? Over 300 members of the community came to meet elected officials and candidates for the November election.
In attendance was Lt. Governor candidate Jody Wagner, Delegates David Bulova, Chuck Caputo, Dave Marsden, Ken Plum, Margi Vanderhye, and Vivian Watts, Delegate candidates Mark Keam, Scott Surovell, and Greg Werkheiser, State Senator Toddy Puller, Fairfax County School Board Chairman Dan Storck, and Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Sharon Bulova.
The day began with a cleanup of Fort Hunt Park and the neighboring Potomac River. Led by Del. Ken Plum and Jody Wagner, 40 volunteers picked up trash and recycling from the Potomac River and from inside Fort Hunt Park grounds. The volunteers collected enough refuse to fill two-dozen trash bags, and a barrel drum and two tires.
After the hard work, everyone celebrated the holiday weekend with a delicious cookout and motivating speeches, including one by acting FCDC Chair Lola Quintela, who commended attendees for?giving up part of their weekend to answer President Obama’s “call to service.”
“The day was a huge success,” said FCDC executive director Mike Burns, “we are always glad when we can get our members together with their Democratic elected officials and have fun doing something good for the community.”
