Update from the FCDC July Meeting
Fairfax County Democratic Committee members packed the cafeteria of the Lanier Middle School in Fairfax on Tuesday night to elect their new Chair and endorse a candidate for School Board.
By acclamation, the Committee chose Mary Ann Hovis of Oakton, Sully District, to fill the term left vacant by former Chair Scott Surovell, who resigned to run for the House of Delegates in the 44th District.
On the recommendation of the Providence Magisterial District Democratic Committee, FCDC gave it’s endorsement to John Jennison who is running in the November election to serve on the Fairfax County School Board representing Providence.
Leslie Mason, Dranesville District, and Ginny Peters, Mt. Vernon District, were appointed to serve as interim Co-Vice Chairs of Finance, a position being vacated by Hovis. Election to fill this position will be held at the September meeting.
The Committee voted a resolution in support of inclusion of a comprehensive?public option in any health care reform legislation.
Jody Wagner, Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor, joined the meeting and spoke of the importance of Fairfax County to the fall election. Joining her was Nick Kowalski from the Coordinated Campaign who gave details on personnel and operations.
