Congratulations to Rip Sullivan!
Sullivan Secures 48th House District Seat
Fairfax, VA – The Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC) reports that Democrat R. C. “Rip” Sullivan won the Special Election handily in Virginia’s 48th Delegate District. In Fairfax County precincts, comprising about 30 percent of the district’s voters, Sullivan won 2,038, or 61 percent, of 3.315 votes cast. In Arlington County precincts, about 70 percent of the district’s voters, he won over 62 percent, or 3,934, of the 6,277 votes cast.
In time for the Governor’s special session next month, Sullivan will be sworn in to replace Delegate Bob Brink, who represented this District in Richmond in the House of Delegates for more than 16 years. Brink was appointed to a Deputy Commissioner position in the McAuliffe Administration.
Sullivan has served our region on numerous boards and commissions and has extensive experience in a number of areas of public policy, including transportation, consumer protection, housing and the environment. He has served as president of Legal Services of Northern Virginia, a non-profit institution providing legal services to low-income residents. And he teaches law as an Adjunct Professor at the George Mason University School of Law.
“Rip Sullivan’s win proves that the voters of Arlington and Fairfax Counties made the best choice, even in a Special Election scheduled by the Republican leadership of the House of Delegates to occur in the middle of summer vacation,” said Sue Langley, FCDC Chair. “Rip will raise a strong voice in Richmond on votes about the region’s transportation problems, public education, Medicaid expansion, gun safety laws, investments in clean energy and a cleaner environment, fair wage policies, and equal rights for all Virginians. Despite the obstacles raised by the Republican leadership, voters in both Arlington and Fairfax made it clear that they want Rip Sullivan to represent them in the House of Delegates.”
