Information for 2019 Candidates

If you are considering running for any of the offices on the ballot in 2019 (General Assembly, Sheriff, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Board of Supervisors, School Board, or Soil & Water Conservation District Director), the Fairfax County Democratic Committee is available to assist you.  We provide equal assistance to any Democrat who is running, even if they have not yet secured our official support.  Click here for a running list of candidates.

Candidates who receive the Democratic nomination or endorsement will receive the full benefits of support from the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, such as access to the Joint Campaign program and more.
Your political campaign and the official paperwork that you file to become a candidate are not dependent upon one another.  You can start a campaign now, by filing the appropriate campaign finance documents, receiving contributions, announcing your candidacy, etc.

For information about the timeline of events and the process to file as a candidate, view the 2019 Nominating Schedule.
For candidates running in a Democratic primary, the filing period is March 11 – March 28.
For candidates for nonpartisan office seeking the Democratic endorsement, filing information will be posted on our homepage.  The countywide endorsement meeting will take place in May 2019 and the districts’ endorsement meetings will take place between March and May.
