With millions of phone calls, door knocks, text messages, neighbor-to-neighbor conversations, and mail pieces later, we put in the work for this election. Unfortunately, despite our effort and positive result here in Fairfax County, we came up short for Virginia.
Fairfax County overwhelmingly rejected the message of Youngkin. We are sending all 15 incumbents back to the House of Delegates with two new amazing women. We will continue to reject the anti-immigrant, anti-public education, and anti-equity notions of the Republican party.
What this result means for the future of Virginia and our nation is grim. Because of this win, Republicans now have a foothold they will use to gain ground in the midterms and challenge our Democratic President in 2024. The conspiracy theorists will soon be in charge of Virginia elections.
We as Democrats must rekindle the passion for civic engagement that led to our historic wins in 2017, 2018, 2019, and culminating in 2020. We must fight to defend the amazing progress we’ve made in our Commonwealth under Democratic leadership. We must continue to fight for what is right from reproductive rights to voting rights.
We are committed to building a Commonwealth that works for everyone, and I hope Governor-elect Youngkin takes his charge seriously to grow a more inclusive and welcoming Virginia that truly works for all of us.
For now, take time to decompress and be with family, friends, and loved ones. We worked hard this election season and you should be proud of your work. Tomorrow is another day and we will continue the fight to keep Virginia moving forward.
