Job Announcement: FCDC Executive Director
Fairfax County is the largest jurisdiction in Virginia and is larger than 7 states. Each of Fairfax County’s nine magisterial districts would fit in the top ten jurisdictions in Virginia by population. FCDC has 600 members, thousands of volunteers, and a budget of over $200,000 per year and growing.
Due to FCDC’s size and significance, we are in the process of hiring an Executive Director to manage FCDC on a daily basis. The job description and requirements are below the fold. FCDC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – JOB DESCRIPTION
FCDC is seeking an executive director to manage our organization on a daily basis and to lead the continuing effort to elect Democrats to all offices representing Fairfax County, Virginia.
Duties are divided into 3 major categories. The three are of equal importance and presumably would require relatively equal effort on the part of the employee.
Fundraising: Work with the Chair, the Finance Committee and Treasurers to:
- Create and monitor annual budgets
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies and targeting
- Broaden and strengthen all phases of the funding base.
- Conduct direct mail appeals and phone campaigns
Campaign Management: Direct planning and implementation (along with appropriate FCDC officers) of:
- Candidate identification, recruitment and orientation
- Campaign messaging – development and delivery
- Volunteer recruitment, training, and deployment
- Research and polling when appropriate
- Opposition research and tactics
Administrative: Provide overall Operations Management to include:
- Office management
- Voter records and databases
- Communications – Newsletters, Website, Press, Blogs
- Meeting Planning
- Training and Facilitation – Officers, Magisterial and Committee Chairs, Precinct operations, Candidates
- Events coordination – Rallies, Parades, Speakers, Fundraisers
- Press Relations
Required Skills and Experience:
- Campaign management experience
- Organization skills
- Communication abilities
- Management experience
- Facilitation and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of State and Federal campaign finance laws
- Familiarity with local and national resource vendors (pollsters, direct
 mail, phone, media) - Knowledge of database resources (VAN, NGP, My Campaign, etc.)
- Technology skills – MS Office Suite and others commensurate with
 position - Willingness to work long hours when necessary
Salary: $40K to $50K + bonuses
Term: All applicants should anticipate an employment term of at least two years.
