FCDC Kicks Off Capital Campaign!
On January 9, 2008, the members of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee elected a new group to transform FCDC into the top political committee in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States.
Our county is one of the largest, wealthiest, best educated, diverse, technologically sophisticated counties, and increasingly Democratic jurisdictions in Virginia and possibly the United States. A jurisdiction of one million people deserves a full-time professional political operation.
The first step is to invest in FCDC’s basic infrastructure so we can have the tools to succeed. Our computer equipment is six years old and runs on Windows 2000. FCDC’s fax machine dates to the 90’s, our copier’s lease is expired, and we have made due with an all-volunteer office staff for many years. We currently have half of a dozen interns waiting to start working for us with no one to supervise their internship.
In 2008, Fairfax County will help elect a Democratic President, a new Democratic senator, and potentially two new congresspersons for Virginia. In 2009, the statewide offices are at stake, plus our last chance to capture the House of Delegates before redistricting. These are the two most important election cycles in a decade.
To kick off our efforts, FCDC is announcing its first Capital Campaign – the FCDC Blue Campaign. The campaign will fund the several items.
THE FCDC BLUE CAMPAIGN
- A full-time Executive Director;
- A professional political campaign software management suite;
- Upgraded bookkeeping software;
- Six new computers;
- A new 8-line autodialer which does messages, polling, and predictive dialing;
- New phone lines and phone banking equipment
- A new black & white and color copier/printer/high-speed scanner/fax;
- Enhanced broadband access; and
- Personal digital assistants for canvassing.
These investments will give us the basic capacities we need to have a first class operation. More importantly, these investments will also benefit every Democratic candidate in Fairfax County and even other committees who need cost-effective copying, robodialing, robopolling, or printing services in Virginia. These investments will pay significant dividends.
Several of our long-time donors have generously offered to match every contribution that FCDC raises for this campaign to $30,000! Some of our challenge donors that we would like to thank are:
Congressman James P. Moran
Larry Baldwin
Former Senator Joe Gartlan
Harris Miller
Pat Morrison
Stanley Richards
Jan Lodal
Molly Lynch
Aggie Wolf
What this means, is that if you contribute today, your money will be doubled. Please consider giving $1000, $500, $250, $100, $50, or even $25. All monies received in response to this letter will only be used for the Capital Campaign. All donors to The Blue Campaign will be recognized on FCDC’s website and in an issue of The Democrat.
This is our year to rebuild FCDC. Thank you for your support of our Committee.
By Authority of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, Scott Surovell, Chair
