What Democrats should know. What should we do?

The problem: Number of people in deportation proceedings, recent increase in arrests, how policy facilitates the deportation pipeline and the disparate treatment of, and impact on communities.

Maya Castillo, Political Director, New Virginia Majority, statewide organizing for racial and economic justice through large-scale political education, mobilization and advocacy.

Mary Supley Foxworth, coordinator of the Immigration Issues Committee of Herndon-Reston Indivisible, an all-volunteer, grassroots group. The Committee seeks the establishment of just and informed immigration policies and their just and humane enforcement, to advocate for and support immigrants and vulnerable communities, and to inform the broader community. hriimmigration@outlook.com.

Response by immigrant communities and advocates. Formation of the Fairfax for All coalition. Activities to date including success with the Sheriff discontinuing the IGSA detention agreement with ICE.

Diane Burkley Alejandro, lead advocate for ACLU People Power Fairfax, a grassroots effort to stop all cooperation by Fairfax law enforcement with ICE beyond what is mandated by law.
